2023 St Aloysius Shiraz Cabernet

The Patron Saint of Youth.

Born in 1568 as the eldest son to influential courtiers in Northern Italy, St Aloysius Gonzaga seemed destined to lead a decorated military career, spending time in camps from as young as four years old. Inspired by Jesuit Missionaries throughout his formative years, he renounced his inheritance and joined the Order at 18. In 1591, St Aloysius aided plague victims in Rome, and at only 23 succumbed to the illness himself. The Fleur de Lis used on the parchment label is a royal symbol of dedication, consistency of purpose and strength of friendship. Commonly associatied with St Aloysius, the emblem recognises his courage, determination and perseverance.

The aroma shows the interplay between the white pepper and plum of Shiraz and the blueberry and dried herbs of Cabernet. Time will see full integration of oak and a complexing of the aromatics. The taste shows a lovely balance, with fine tannins lacing the fruit across the complete length and breadth of the palate. A wine with a fine future.
