Sevenhill’s Riesling vineyards are planted on gently undulating slopes up to 500 metres above sea level. Warm days and cool nights during the growing and ripening season are perfect for Riesling, as is the combination of stony and richer, red-loam soils.
Although spring and summer were very dry, rain at critical times during the growing and ripening season ensured sound development of the fruit. Warm days and cool nights leading into vintage, which started at Sevenhill on February 27, and during harvest allowed gentle development of the crop, which meant the fruit could be picked at optimum ripeness.
Fruit for the 2018 Inigo Riesling was picked over a two-week period from March 2-15. The three batches, which have different elevations, soil types and vine age, were crushed and de-stemmed into a membrane press, then gently pressed into tank. From there, the wine was racked before fermentation in a stainless-steel tank, where temperatures were kept relatively cool to retain the beautiful varietal aromas and flavours.
Bright, fresh aromas of orange blossom and honey suckle introduce the 2018 Inigo Riesling. The palate is lively and fresh, with prominent flavours of lemon-peel citrus, giving the wine strong varietal style. The finish is clean and dry, with lingering, crunchy acidity.
