Grown in slate soils of limited fertility, Barbera's vigorous growth habit is harnessed, creating a rich palate with long, fine tannins.
Cooler temperatures in January 2017 and rain towards the end of the month slowed ripening in South Australia’s wine regions, however a burst of hot weather in early February reinvigorated ripening. The Barbera grapes hung on the vine to ensure complete and even ripening until late March and were harvested on 31st March 2017.
Barbera's natural tannin levels are sometimes underestimated, however when carefully fermented at Sevenhill, we develop lingering, fine tannins complemented by sweet berry flavour.
The 2017 Inigo Barbera has a vibrant and lifted nose with aromas of lavender and cloves dominating. The palate is juicy with crunchy cherry and black olive notes. The finish is long and smooth with lingering gentle tannins.
